What is an actigraph?

An actigraph is a watch-like device used to record activity and rest data. When worn, an actigraph monitors body movement, temperature, and light levels during a person's awake-time and compares it to their sleep-time. We use this actigraphy data to gather information on the amount of sleep, the quality of sleep, how long it took to fall asleep, and more.

A polysomnograph (psg) device worn on the forehead and chest that monitors EEG, nasal airflow, respiration, pulse, and movement. We use this data to indicate signs of sleep dysfunction, such as sleep apnea.

What is a sleep diary?

A sleep diary is used to keep track of sleep. Typically done daily, a sleep diary entry helps you note wake times, nap times, bed times, and sleep quality. When participating in a sleep study, sleep diaries help researchers compare your diary data to the recorded data from a sleep study device, such as an actigraph or polysomnograph.
